Going In-Depth with Norwegian Cold Water Surfer and Photographer, Naomi Dalsbø

Ervik, a small town off the west coast of Norway, is home to Naomi Dalsbø and one of her favorite breaks to longboard. Naomi enjoys paddling out year round, and during the winter months, the coast temperature averages 8 degrees Celsius. When she's not catching waves, Naomi is behind the camera photographing for her company, SALTNWAX DESIGN STUDIO

I love when people borrow my camera, I find it so inspiring to see what they capture and how they would like to capture something.

Quotes by: Naomi Dalsbø

"I grew up on a small island northwest of where I live now, near Alesund, and started skateboarding when I was about a teenager. Surfing wasnt really a thing, few people knew what it was. The only person I knew who surfed was my neighbor, but she was 10 years older than me."

"Right now I surf a gato heroi playdate 9,4."

During the cold months, Naomi wears a Winter XCEL 6/5/4, shoes 8mm, and gloves 7mm.

Her company, SALTNWAX DESIGN STUDIO, is a true reflection of Naomi's creative instincts and love for the water.

"Me and my good friend run SALTNWAX DESIGN STUDIO, our graphic design and photography company. We love the ocean and being creative. My natural surroundings inspire me and play a huge role in the the material my partner and I are able to deliver to clients. Shooting from the water is my favorite but we also do branding, websites, and wedding photography."

"I think my goals would be to stay real. I feel like these days with Instagram and social media “everyone” knows how to take good photos. But I don't want mine to be “perfect”. I love when people borrow my camera, I find it so inspiring to see what they capture and how they would like to capture something."

"No waves sucks! But when it is flat, I'm able to catch up on all the adult things that I don't do when there are waves. I'm a sheep farmer as well, so there's always something to do."

In June, Naomi flew out to Oregon with her family to visit her sister.

"We drove down the coast and ended up in San Clemente. We spent a week there in San Clemente, where I surfed San O and Doho most of the time and loved it."

I’m inspired by the water, the sun, the moon, and the stars. My countless wipeouts, my dreams of noseriding, and the feeling I get when sliding across the face of a wave.
